Release 1.0.43.2 — Activity Files Meet the Exercise Catalog

The web utility hub apps.fredric18.uk has shipped version 1.0.43.2. The axis of this revision is the workout logging suite. Activity files exported by cycling computers and smartwatches finally take their proper place in the exercise catalog, and the paths a thumb travels through a list have been straightened.

From Ad-Hoc Record to Catalog Entry

Until now, importing a .fit, .gpx or .tcx file produced a record that belonged nowhere. The same bicycle ride, logged by hand and imported from a file, became two unrelated entries — and the totals quietly diverged.

This release reads the discipline the file declares and links the import to the official catalog exercise. It goes further, inspecting the sub-discipline to separate indoor from outdoor. A stationary bike is not a road ride; a treadmill is not a trail. Each now finds its own entry.

Repeated imports behave differently too. Instead of stacking side by side, matching exercises accumulate as sets. Two runs in one day are two sets, not two exercises.

Recovering Measurements That Were Discarded

A device does not merely time and measure distance. It estimates energy, records heart rate, and tracks the ground it climbed. Those values previously passed unread.

  • Calories burned, with average and maximum heart rate
  • Average cadence and maximum speed
  • Total ascent

These are displayed read-only, deliberately kept apart from figures the user typed. Distinguishing what was measured from what was entered is the minimum courtesy a record owes its reader.

Asking Whether a Routine Is Balanced

Custom routines gain a balance score. It weighs how sets are distributed across muscle groups, whether recovery spacing is adequate, and whether stretching and cardio hold any ground — then names where the routine falls short. Training hard and training evenly are separate questions.

Reordering, Unified Around Dragging

Changing an item’s position moves from arrow buttons to drag-and-drop. The repetition of nudging something upward one row at a time is gone, and mouse, touch and pen behave identically. The insertion point is marked plainly between rows.

Accessibility is preserved. The handle remains a button, so arrow keys still reorder. For long lists, a compact reorder dialog presents everything at once.

Not Scrolling Back Up

On a narrow screen, once you had scanned a list to its end, the button you needed next generally sat at the very top. You lifted your thumb and travelled back.

This release moved the buttons you press after reading a list directly beneath it — create routine, add day, add settlement entry, open workout note. On narrow screens they now span the full width, widening the touch target.

While editing a custom routine, the current day’s name and position stay pinned to the top. In a routine of several days, there is no longer a trip upward to answer “which day was this?”

Also in This Release

  • A logged exercise can be swapped for another in place, without deleting it first.
  • Exercises referenced by activity files are prepared in advance, so imports link without delay.
  • Imported measurements are preserved across save and reload.
  • A full-site search-engine audit was codified into regression-prevention quality baselines.
