Time

When referring to a specific point in time

• Compile Time: The point at which the compiler converts source code into machine language.
• Load Time: The point at which a program is loaded into memory when it is executed.
• Link Time: The point at which the object file and library are combined to create an executable file.
• Bind Time: The point at which a variable or function call is combined with an actual memory address.
• Install Time: The point at which software is installed on the user’s system.
• Initialization Time: The point at which initial setup is completed when the program is executed.

When referring to a period of time

• Build Time: The entire process where source code is built and converted into an executable file.
• Response Time: The time it takes for the system to respond after user input is given.
• Execution Time: The time it takes while the program is actually running.
• Debug Time: Time while debugging the program.

Runtime

• Runtime sometimes refers to a period of time and sometimes refers to a point in time.
• Calling a specific process a runtime usually refers to the core engine that makes up the runtime environment.
