Kubernetes kube-proxy Metric Binding

๐Ÿ’ก Kubernetes kube-proxy Metric Binding โ€” Executive Summary

Technical architectural analysis, practical configuration manifests, and deployment instructions for Kubernetes kube-proxy Metric Binding.

Monitoring kube-proxy

kube-proxy also provides a metrics endpoint called /metrics. However, because the default setting is 127.0.0.1:10249, it cannot be accessed from outside.

So, if you try to collect it from prometheus, a problem occurs because access is not possible.

Change settings
bash
kubectl -n kube-system edit cm/kube-proxy
## Change from
    metricsBindAddress: 127.0.0.1:10249
## Change to
    metricsBindAddress: 0.0.0.0:10249

Of course, change it to 0.0.0.0:10249 and access is possible from anywhere, so it is better not to use it in places where security is weak.

Change the settings and restart kube-proxy for them to take effect.

bash
kubectl -n kube-system delete pod -l k8s-app=kube-proxy
